In comparing Kona Ironman finishing times for the male winners over the past 15 years (2000-2014), the times have been lowered less than 2% from the 15 years before that (1985-1999). The women’s winner’s times have seen a slightly larger decrease. Given that the event has always been condition-dependent and that technology has increased in the past three decades, TH.Com would like to hear some explanations as to why the times have changed so little in 30 years of the sport’s evolution.
